Have you ever received a link to your blog and took a look at where the link came from found out that it’s a snippet from one of your blog posts? This happens all the time on the internet and is called RSS Feed scraping.
The basic principle is that people setup a blog with a script to scrape content from other blogs. If this script searches through all kinds of RSS feeds then they’ll get a bunch of content. The search engines will then index their site and they’ll get traffic. Repeat this process with a bunch of different niches and you can make a bit of money.
I personally have never tried RSS scraping and I think it’s a bit unethical. However, I’m not here to debate the intricacies of how people make money online. I am here to tell you a good way to gain from these RSS scrapers.
1) Include a link to your blog in each of your posts. It’s best to include it the link near the start of the post as RSS scrapers usually take the first 100 characters. Having a link here ensures that at least you’ll get a link to your post from these RSS scrapers!
2) Include advertisements in your RSS feed. Two great ways of placing advertisements is text link type ads through Google Adsense RSS links or Bidvertiser RSS links. The second is through product placement ads linking to products at Pepperjam Network or Commission Junction.
People with RSS scrapers are going to take your content. You can try to stop them using a legal means such as a Cease and Desist letter. Or you can simply try to gain from them stealing your content. It’s really your choice.
