You’ve had your site up for the past X months. Hopefully you’ve been following along from the start. If you haven’t then I recommended reading the beginners guide or the following articles and getting started ASAP. Remember, it’s all about getting that passive income started today!

Anyway, in that last article you setup your Google Analytics and SlimStat to track all the stats of your site. Now if you’re like most people who are just starting out you’ve been checking these stats daily (sometimes more). That’s totally normal and perfectly fine. However, just checking to see if you have had a visitor or two doesn’t really help your site.

Today I’ll discuss the SlimStat plugin functions and what you can learn from it quickly and easily (I’ll discuss Google Analytics later). The slimstat plugin, although outdated, still provides good information.

The slimstat screen provides a summary of five basic pieces of information

  • Summary -> A summary of your traffic to date
  • Recent Domains -> Where your visitors are coming from
  • Recent Search Strings -> What search queries your visitor used to access your site.  This is linked back to the search engine and (usually) is referenced to the specific page on google.
  • New Domains -> Domains that haven’t visited your site yet.
  • Recent Resources  -> Which pages these visitors viewed on your page.

The most useful information that I use with slimstat is the Recent Search Strings.  This gives a good look at the search terms people are using to reach your site.  These typically are search terms that you aren’t even pursuing .  This can help you determine other topics to write about or try to rank for thus gaining more keywords.

It’s always a good idea to check your slimstat’s to keep tabs on your site.  This requires very little effort as it’s in yoru wordpress Dashboard.
