An important part of any blog is to connect to your readers. Here are a few things to take into consideration while writing your blogs.
Be passionate
The more passionate about a subject the better your writing. this does not necessarily mean the grammar, sentence structure and spelling. I’m talking about the structure, flow and general prose. Most bloggers (myself, definitely, included) are terrible with grammar. Are we unsuccessful because of this? No. We blog about something that makes us tick. For me, it’s blogging for money and just making money online in general. Will it be this same topic in one year? Maybe. Maybe not. The beauty of the internet though is that the information that you’ve written will still be there and hopefully brining in income.
Be Accurate
Nobody wants to find incorrect information on the internet. It’s ok if you’re incorrect or not completely accurate occasionally. However, if you are incorrect too often your readers will know and won’t trust your writing.
Would you read a blog that you knew was wrong quite often? I know that I wouldn’t.
Blog Regularly
You’ll have many readers that will stop by (or check their RSS) on a regular basis. These readers are expecting a new blog daily, bi-daily, weekly, or whatever. Once you’ve created a pattern try not to break it. If you update your site 3 times a day then that’s what your readers expect. If you break this trend than your readers may become un-interested.
Respond to comments / emails
This may seem like a silly point. However, once your blog gets bigger you’ll get more emails and more comments. Obviously, you can’t respond to every comment but keeping a presence in the comment section of your site is important. It shows that you’re still passionate about the subject.
If you’re not passionate about the topic it’ll come through in your writing and your readers will know. I’ve started a few blogs that didn’t work. Why? Because I wasn’t passionate about the subject. I started writing a blog and determined that it was too much work to research the subject.
If this is the case with your blog then maybe you aren’t passionate about the subject. Don’t be afraid to drop the site and move onto something that you’d rather be blogging about.
Connecting with your readers is key to convert a browser into a reader.
