LinkShare.comis another one of the largest affiliate networks on the internet.
You can simply join. If you have a fairly new site then you might not get approved for some merchants. Again, if you’re a new blog then you should write a detailed review of the goals of your site.
Pros
- Number of Merchants - Linkshare has over 100 different merchants with a wide range of categories.
- Quality of Merchants - The real advantage I’ve found is the quality of the merchants. By quality I mean merchants where people would be interested in purchasing items from. This includes LEGO, TigerDirect, PetSmart, etc…
Cons
- No Affiliate Manager - Many other affiliate programs dedicate an affiliate manager to a specific affiliate. These affiliate managers are there to help you make more sales. I’ve never even talked to support at Linkshare.
- DataFeeds - This is a bit of an advanced topic, which I’ll discuss in due time. However, I’ve never been able to figure out the datafeeds. In all fairness I haven’t invested a ton of time.
- No Real Time tracking - Many affiliates need their stats updated in real-time. You probably don’t need real-time tracking (yet) so don’t worry about this one.
- Slow Payouts - Linkshare has one of the slowest payouts in the industry. They wait until the merchants return date has been passed before paying the affiliate (you).
Similar to Commission Junction quite a few people aren’t fans of Linkshare. However, they’ve made me money and I’ve been paid by them. I’d like them to have faster payouts for really I don’t need the money in a hurry and it’s nice having a random check show up every so often. My biggest complaint is that they have a limited supply of Canadian Merchants. I think they only have 10-12 different merchants. This is only a “con” if you’re a Canadian based blog.
